Born in Warsaw, Simha Ratajzer-Rotem (KAZIK) was a member of the Akiba movement. Having joined the JFO, he took part in the fighting in the Brushmakers' sector during the April 1943 Insurrection and, later on, in the Central Ghetto. On May 8th , 1943, he was sent over
to the Aryan side by Zivia Lubetkin, to inform Yitzhak Zuckerman of the need to evacuate surviving combatants. Considered as an essential liaison officer, he was the main organizer of the fighting men's rescue operation via the sewers. He has left notes telling his story.
